Softcat has officially confirmed the appointment of former Microsoft UK board member Colin Brown as its new deputy managing director.

Brown joins Softcat after four years as general manager of the UK services organisation at Microsoft. Before joining Microsoft, he spent 20 years at Computacenter, including four years as chief executive of its German business, where he had some 4,000 people reporting to him, and five years as its government sector director.

Brown comments: “I have had a fantastic time at Microsoft, but now I feel it is time for a new challenge. Softcat is growing at an incredible pace, doubling both its headcount and turnover in just two years, and attributes that in large part to its focus on employee and customer satisfaction. I look forward to helping the company to build on the remarkable things that it has achieved.”

Softcat MD, Martin Hellawell worked with Brown at Computacenter: “We have never worked in the same area but I have always had tremendous respect for him and for what he has achieved. I think he will be great for us because he has bags of experience of managing growth organisations but does it with great humility and has excellent people skills.”
