Elon Musk tweets and deletes anti-travel ban Twitter messages

SpaceX and Tesla CEO Elon Musk accidentally posted a series of Tweets yesterday outlining his opposition to President Donald Trump's travel ban on seven countries.

"Regarding govt. policy, there are often things that happen that most people don't agree with. This is normal for a functional democracy," stated Musk's initial tweet. The next one read: "The Muslim immigration ban is not right."

"They rarely warrant a public statement. However, the ban on Muslim immigrants from certain countries rises to this level," read the final tweet.

Within minutes, however, all three tweets were deleted from Musk's profile, but some of his 7.22 million followers noticed.

"Why did @elonmusk just delete his Tweets regarding the #Muslimban? They were sound," tweeted user Sam Cornwell, who posted screenshots of Musk's deleted Tweets.

"They were earlier drafts that I accidentally published. I said the same thing a week [ago] already," Musk responded.

Trump's immigration ban, which targets people from the predominantly Muslim countries of Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen, has fallen victim to tremendous backlash from a global audience, and is now bogged down in legal battles.

Despite the fact that Musk currently serves on two of Trump's advisory boards, this is not the first time he has spoken out about his disapproval of the president's policies. On 28 January, Musk sent a string of tweets that also highlighted his opposition.

"The blanket entry ban on citizens from certain primarily Muslim countries is not the best way to address the countries [sic] challenges," read the first tweet.

He added: "Many people negatively affected by this policy are strong supporters of the US. They've done right, not wrong & don't deserve to be rejected."
